Youth Ministries – Polar Bear Plunge

01/02/2019 by Beth

Please support our youth ministries on:

SATURDAY, January 26, 2019
NESHAMINY STATE PARK
3401 State Road
Bensalem, PA 19020

The complete event runs from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm. The actual plunge occurs at 12:00 pm.

Rite 13 and J2A youth and leaders are inviting you to help us raise money for Special Olympics PA! This is a polar bear plunge…brrr! Crazy you ask??? Yes indeed.
However, this event is celebrating 11 years of raising money for Special Olympics. They get around 1,000 people to participate with many jumping into the Delaware River. Coffee and hot chocolate are provided as well as all the safety crews necessary and heating tents for such an event. How could you not want to be a part of this tradition?
Registration is $20 as a “plunger” or as “too chicken” with a goal of raising $50 each (the $20 reg fee goes toward each goal). The cost of all High school & College participants is $0 to register and $35 to raise. Please join or donate to the team “FROZEN CHOSEN”. The option also is available to simply donate to our team goal ie. no plunging or standing out in the cold!

Within the website you can help us by registering as a plunger, registering as “too chicken”, or simply donating to our *team*, the FROZEN CHOSEN.

NEWS FLASH: Great News! This year’s Plunge will welcome Philadelphia Eagles Safety & Super Bowl Champion Rodney McLeod as the Honorary Polar Plunge Captain! Rodney will be on site to host the costume contest, sign autographs (in small tent to the left of the main registration tent), take photos and cheer on participants as they exit the icy cold water! Come meet Rodney, register for the Plunge or donate today at PlungePa.org!

This is a very successful and organized event that we are proud to participate in for our youth and for outreach for the community.

Check out the Special Olympics Pennsylvania website with special footage about the event.

About Saint James

There are a number of Saint Jameses in the New Testament – Saint James the brother of Jesus (‘St. James the Just’), Saint James the son of Zebedee (‘St. James the Great’) and Saint James the son of Alphaeus (‘St. James the Less’). The shells that adorn the outside of the parish hall (a symbol of St. James the Great) suggest that our parish is named for this St. James.
