Weekly News – December 4, 2015

12/04/2015 by Luann McIlvaine

We welcome Father John to St. James’ this Sunday

Join us this Sunday as we welcome our new rector, Father John Symonds.

Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas Parade, December 12 beginning at 3pm

St. James’ will have a float in the parade featuring the nativity scene.  Members will also walk along with the float handing out candy canes while other members will be Good Will Host in front of the church serving hot drinks and treats and singing Christmas Carols!  Following the parade, St. James’ members are invited to a Christmas party in Bartholomew Hall.  Bring a dish to share.  Contact Rich Carango for more information.

You can honor the memory of a loved one or give thanks for the blessings in your life by having a poinsettia placed on the Altar for the Christmas Services. All names will be printed in the Christmas bulletins. The cost is $20 for one poinsettia and you can list as many names as you want. Orders need to be received by December 20th (names received after the deadline will not be printed in the bulletin)  Ordering envelopes are on the flower table in the hallway and on the usher table

2016 Offering Envelopes

Offering envelopes for 2016 have been mailed, if you do not receive it by December 18th, please let the parish office know.   Please do not use these envelopes until 2016 as some members have been assigned a new offering number for next year.

Men’s Bible Study

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew are presenting a bible study during Advent on the theme “Men at Work”.  They meet at the church on Thursday nights, 7:30pm to 9:pm.  The last three classes are December 3, 10, and 17.  Contact Rob Deitcher for more information

Handicap Entrance

Work on the handicap entrance was delayed this week due a few rainy days.  IT IS MOST LIKELY  IT WILL NOT BE ACCESSIBLE THIS SUNDAY.   We are sorry for the inconvenience

Thank you from Christa Tyner for helping with the Lord’s Pantry Adopt a Family for Christmas program.

Our members’ generosity was amazing.  We had so many donations of clothing, toys, and gift certificates to help two families have a wonderful Christmas.

2016 Stewardship Update

The Finance Committee thanks our members for making their 2016 pledges.  If you have not made your pledge yet, please do so as soon as possible.  The committee is  in the process of working on the budget for 2016 and it would very helpful if they have all the pledges.
