Readings and stuff for Sunday (Dec 1)

11/26/2013 by Luann McIlvaine

Hi everyone.

I can’t believe it’s December and Advent at that.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone..  God bless you all!!!

Don’t forget that next Sunday Col Mark DelVecchio will be visiting us at the 9:00 service with his family.  Make them welcome.

Christa Tyner has made a special gift for them from the church!!

Vespers at 5:00 – our theme is HOPE

The readings this Sunday are both very beautiful and moving.

the final passage from Isaiah is the quotation which is at the base of the main statue outside of the United Nations building in New York:

And they will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks, nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore."

That’s about as good as the Bible gets!  Read it as if it’s the first time you’ve ever heard it – with wonder and awe.

In Romans we have one of the major themes of advent: "Let us them lay aside the works of darkness and put on the armor of light…"  that’s what Advent is all about.

God bless you all and thank you for your ministries!!

Tim

About Saint James

There are a number of Saint Jameses in the New Testament – Saint James the brother of Jesus (‘St. James the Just’), Saint James the son of Zebedee (‘St. James the Great’) and Saint James the son of Alphaeus (‘St. James the Less’). The shells that adorn the outside of the parish hall (a symbol of St. James the Great) suggest that our parish is named for this St. James.
