Parish news 11/24

11/29/2010 by Luann McIlvaine

Just a few reminders for this week:

Annual Family Advent Wreath Making

Once again this year we will have an intergenerational event for the making of family Advent wreaths.  Please join us on Sunday, November 28, the First Sunday of Advent.  All parishioners are invited.  Sunday School classes will be in Bartholomew so families can work together on making a wreath. St. James’ will supply the materials; you supply the creativity! Bring a pair of clippers and your candle ring from last year if you still have one

ADVENT SERVICE OF VESPERS ~ THE LUCERNARIA  (the lighting of candles)

An Order of Worship for the Evening: A time for meditation and healing

During the four Sundays of Advent: November 28, December 5, December 12, and December 19

we will be offering a new Sunday evening service at 4:00 pm.

The service is called the Lucernaria which is from a Latin word meaning a service of illumination.

Essentially, it is a service of meditation and healing which involves the Advent anthems at the candle lighting, the readings from the propers for the Advent Sundays,

a meditation, prayers for healing and an opportunity to come forward to light a candle for yourself or someone you love. The service concludes with the receiving of communion from the reserve sacrament.

This service is designed for those who would prefer a quiet, meditative form of worship during the great season of Advent, in which we prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ into the world, and into our hearts.  It falls at 4:00 pm to capture the gentle spirit of the old service of Vespers:

Candy Canes:

Thanks to everyone last Sunday for all your hard work on the candy canes.  We still have about 20 boxes to go, so they will be out on Sunday for anyone not making a wreath.

Angel Tree

There are still two tags left on The Lord’s Pantry Angel Tree

Christmas Tea (Capital Campaign Celebration)

The Tea will be held on December 5 in Bartholomew Hall.  We will have two services that day, 7:45 and a combined 10am service.  The Tea will follow the 10am service.  You can RSVP to Rose Ann Belluso at 610-873-4175 or Robe7152aol.com or just reply to this email.  You don’t want to miss this fabulous event.  All members are invited.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and hope to see you all on Sunday.

Luann
