Hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Opportunities

09/02/2017 by Beth

“If one part of the body suffers, we all suffer with it” (1 Cor 12:26)

Bishop Gutiérrez invites all of us to reach out and do what we can to help those in need in the aftermath of the natural disaster the hit Texas and portions of the Gulf coast in the last week. The   Bishop sent out  a letter detailing opportunities to help Episcopal Relief & Development with their work. Below you will find additional avenues to offer assistance.

A Prayer for First Responders

Blessed are you, Lord, God of mercy, who through your Son gave us a marvelous example of charity and the great commandment of love for one another. Send down your blessings on these your servants, who so generously devote themselves to helping others. Grant them courage when they are afraid, wisdom when they must make quick decisions, strength when they are weary, and compassion in all their work. When the alarm sounds and they are called to aid both friend and stranger, let them faithfully serve you in their neighbor. We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN.

About Saint James

There are a number of Saint Jameses in the New Testament – Saint James the brother of Jesus (‘St. James the Just’), Saint James the son of Zebedee (‘St. James the Great’) and Saint James the son of Alphaeus (‘St. James the Less’). The shells that adorn the outside of the parish hall (a symbol of St. James the Great) suggest that our parish is named for this St. James.
