Florence & Don Vivian Gift New Brass Thurible & Boat to the Parish as a Memorial to Recognize Rev. Deacon Jo Demby
The Altar Guild of St. James’ Episcopal Church, Downingtown [Diocese of Pennsylvania and a member of the Brandywine Deanery] is proud to announce that a beautiful new piece of liturgical processional hardware has been given to the church.
In honor of her late sister, Deacon Jo, who had served a number of parishes within the diocese, Florence Vivian and her husband Don have gifted a brand new thurible (censer) and boat (container to hold the unburned incense) to the parish.
The thurible will be used during “high” worship services from time to time, as well as during those Eucharistic services that are most appropriately suited for using incense (e.g., Ascension Day, All Saints’ Day).
