St. James’ is a Gospel-centered community, part of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania. Our members have a strong desire to live out the good news of God in Jesus Christ in their lives, their families and their community.
We strive to be a welcoming, caring, and inclusive community – reflecting Saint Paul’s understanding of a church as a dedicated group of followers that reaches out and cares for one another.
Here, we believe that the church is not simply a building; but people – a diverse yet tight-knit community that serves God through worship, education, and outreach. Our growing and vibrant worship parish provides opportunities for individuals of all ages to grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ.
St. James’ is committed to enhancing the life of the Downingtown community, not only as a major focus of outreach activities, but also with our participation in the life of the community. Our Thrift Shop, preschool and support of the Lord’s Pantry (which was originally housed at St. James’) – as well as our annual participation in the Downingtown Good Neighbor Christmas parade – attest to our connection with our neighbors.
Our mission today is reflected in the Baptismal Covenant of The Episcopal Church:
To continue in the worship, teaching and fellowship of God’s people, to proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ, to seek and serve Christ in all persons, and to respect the dignity of every human being.
